About Kappa Delta
In 1897, four young women at State Female Normal School of Virginia (now Longwood University) joined together with a common vision — to create something “higher and nobler,” an organization that would empower women through friendship and high ideals. Over 125 years later, the sorority continues to live the dream of its founders by providing a lifelong experience for our members through support and sisterhood.
The Kappa Delta experience offers members the chance to leave their mark on the future and impact the lives of members and those in need around the world. Contributions to the Kappa Delta Foundation from alumnae, collegians and friends enable the sorority to further its philanthropic efforts, local community outreach programs, as well as scholarships and educational opportunities for members.

Our Values
Our four values – friendship & loyalty, personal integrity, lifelong learning, and selfless service – were created by our founders to help each Kappa Delta woman become the best version of herself.
Our Colors and Symbols
Kappa Delta's colors are olive green and pearl white; our jewels are the diamond, emerald and pearl; our symbols include the white rose, nautilus shell and dagger; and our mascot is the teddy bear.
About Sigma Mu
Since our founding at the George Washington University, we have worked each day to uphold our motto: "Let us strive for that which is Honorable, Beautiful, and Highest." Kappa Delta inspires its members to reach their potential by offering opportunities for leadership, personal development, academic success and community service.Sisterhood is the common tie that binds all Kappa Delta members. From the moment you run home on the National Mall on Bid Day, you begin to form relationships that will last a lifetime. Being a Kappa Delta means belonging to a group of exceptional women who will always stand by you. Kappa Delta accepts its members for who they are and challenges them to develop into the women that they dream of becoming.
